Dr. Antoni Gil Pujol - Research Fellow

Short bio

Born in Lleida (Catalunya) in April 1974, Antoni graduated in Electro-Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalunya in 2002. He received his M.Sc. degree in Energetic Efficiency and Renewable Energies at the University of Zaragoza, (Spain) in 2005.

Antoni developed his PhD on Thermal Energy Storage technologies at the University of Lleida, in collaboration with GREA research group, focusing his research on thermal energy storage using Phase Change Materials (PCM) for solar cooling applications, in the frame of a National Project led by the Spanish company Gas Natural. During his thesis, he also collaborated with Abengoa Solar in a CONSOLIDA project, developing a 2-tanks of molten salts facility at lab scale (18 kW) in order to test and analyze different operating conditions and extrapolate the results to commercial scale.

After obtaining his PhD with European mention and cum laude, Antoni joined on January 2013 the Thermal Energy Storage group of CIC energigune (Spain). He was involved in several regional projects focused on the use of PCMs as a storage material for solar applications. He also helped to start the research line focused on the waste heat recovering in industrial processes by the use of by-products from industry.

On October 2014 Antoni joined Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) as a research fellow in the frame of Concentrated Solar Power on Demand (CSPonD) project. In this project, in collaboration with Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Antoni led the design, construction and experimental campaign of a prototype of 25 kW, based on a new concept of Concentrated Solar Power system.
