Energy Recovery through Enhanced Turbomachinery Design and Analysis

Turbomachinery have been used for a wide variety of applications, ranging from pumps, aircraft engines, to turbochargers in both stationary and automobile applications. There has been much research conducted to improve the performance of turbomachinery, but there are still significant gaps in the knowledge of turbomachinery design and optimization, especially in radial turbomachines which are commonly used in small-scale turbocharger applications for energy recovery. In this research we aim to address some of the gaps in turbomachinery research and advance passive/control systems to improve turbine/compressor performance by introducing novel concepts for the housing design. Through these advancements we aim to increase efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions both in propulsion systems and energy recovery systems.
